Solar Energy
Solar energy systems capture sunlight and convert it into electricity, which is then used for everything that you regularly “plug in” like lights, appliances, and even electric cars! As technology advances make solar more widely available, many people are taking advantage of this renewable energy source for their home.
Benefits of solar for your home
- Because solar systems generate their own energy for your home, they help you save money on your monthly electricity bill.
- Solar energy is a renewable resource that does not use fossil fuels, which helps reduce pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and prevent climate change.
- Coal and natural gas prices have continued to rise as their sources become more depleted, but as a renewable resource solar prices stay consistent.
Community solar
If you’re a renter or condo owner, you probably can’t install a solar system at your home. Community solar is another solar opportunity that lets subscribe to a large solar system that is built somewhere other than your home. In return, you get a credit on your electric bill that represents the energy that your portion of the solar system generated. In Illinois, community solar companies help you save by charging you less than what you would have paid ComEd or Ameren.
Illinois Solar for All

Through ILSFA, there are no upfront costs for participants, and savings are guaranteed. Savings will vary depending on a variety of factors, such as how much electricity is products by the solar project and your current electricity rate. To get savings information specific to your household, work with an Approved Vendor through the ILSFA program.
