About Healthy Homes for Healthy Families
Healthy Homes for Healthy Families supports suburban Cook County families by providing free safety, energy efficiency, water conservation, and whole-home upgrades. Healthy Homes for Healthy Families makes single-family homes and 2- to 4-unit residential buildings in suburban Cook County safer, healthier, and more efficient at no cost to owners or renters.
Healthy Homes for Healthy Families is made possible by Cook County Government and is administered by Elevate Energy (Elevate). Funding is provided by the American Rescue Plan Act.

Types of Potential Upgrades
The type of work that will be completed in each home is customized based on results from a whole-home assessment. A list of potential upgrades could include:
- Removal of lead paint
- Removal or treatment of health hazards, including radon and mold
- Structural repairs
- Plumbing repairs and water conservation upgrades
- Insulation
- Installation of high-efficiency appliances
What are the eligibility requirements for Healthy Homes for Healthy Families?
To be eligible for this program, applicants need to meet the following criteria:
- A household whose gross income does not exceed 120% area medium income (AMI)
- Owner or renter of a single-family home or 2–4-unit residential building
- Live in suburban Cook County (outside of the City of Chicago) and within a high-risk zip code for pediatric lead poisoning or in a disadvantaged census tract as defined by the Federal Government.
