Intern, Energy Policy

The Elevate Policy Intern works on policy education, outreach, research, analysis, and writing tasks. The Policy Intern assists the Wisconsin Policy Director with researching and synthesizing information related clean energy and affordable housing.  The Intern analyzes clean energy programs and policies.

The Policy Intern should have a strong interest in clean energy, climate justice, affordable housing, and government.  The Policy Intern has skills in writing, researching, analyzing policy, coordinating webinars and meetings (via Zoom, Teams or other virtual platform), and a desire to learn about organizations leading the clean energy transition.  The Policy Intern is self-motivated, organized, and has good communication skills with colleagues and supervisors. The Policy Intern has a commitment to identifying and promoting policy solutions to accelerate equitable access to clean energy benefits for all Wisconsinites.

The Policy Intern reports to the Wisconsin Policy Director and works closely with the Director of Policy and other Elevate staff to gather data and information necessary for their work when needed. This position is located in Wisconsin and is fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coordination and support for a series of virtual events on clean energy policy topics.
  • Research and write inputs for blogs, factsheets, and other documents on Wisconsin clean energy policy.
  • Research and collect information on clean energy, climate, and housing programs.
  • Attend and support in-person events as needed.
  • Summarize collected information on government programs.
  • Opportunity to participate in internal REDI-related events.
  • Opportunity to participate in internal staff meetings and other events.
  • Available to meet in person monthly with supervisor in Madison, Wisconsin.
  • Ability to work independently between meetings and raise questions and ideas regularly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Students must be actively enrolled in a Wisconsin academic program
  • Graduate students focused on energy, law, public policy, engineering, environment, or another relevant academic program are preferred candidates. Undergraduate students with exceptional experience may be considered
  • Persistence and creativity in finding specific documents and information, often with little guidance
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to keep track of names, dates, events, and evolving tasks
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Basic familiarity with structure of federal and state government

Terms of Service

Internships at Elevate are paid positions, for current college or graduate students, or recent college graduates. The usual time commitment for this internship is for 24 weeks, 10-12 hours/week but there is some flexibility with this schedule.  In addition, there may be potential to extend the internship. The Energy Policy Intern is paid $20/hour.

If interns are handling confidential data, they will be asked to comply with security policies, as required. In addition, all policy interns are asked to comply with a confidentiality and nondisclosure agreement.
