Senior Research Analyst, Research and Innovation

The Senior Research Analyst supports Elevate’s goal of accelerating climate action as part of the Research and Innovation team, which is responsible for applied research, strategic partnerships, and demonstration projects. The Senior Research Analyst is a key member in the planning, development, and implementation of applied research projects for external clients as well as internal business units. The Senior Research Analyst creates and contributes to high quality, high profile, and relevant research deliverables, and actively promotes a collaborative organizational culture of innovation.

The Senior Research Analyst reports to the Director, Research and Innovation and collaborates closely with staff across business units. This position is located in Chicago, Illinois with the option to be remote.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate industry and subject matter expertise, interpret broad industry trends, research, and opportunities, and communicate how learnings may be applied across Elevate’s programs.
  • Lead quantitative and qualitative analyses and projects, including survey, interview, and focus group design and implementation, to investigate research questions related to Elevate’s mission.
  • Identify, research, and critically evaluate datasets, research methods and proposals, background information, and/or public policy relevant to Elevate initiatives, including energy and water efficiency, building electrification and decarbonization, environmental and public health, energy and water security, and energy and water policy and funding.
  • Lead development of materials for reports, publications, proposals, and presentations, including charts, graphs, and maps that describe and interpret findings, and efficiently and effectively reveal spatial and statistical relationships.
  • Clearly communicates knowledge and findings, project/program updates, and analysis results to internal and external clients and stakeholders.
  • Prepare, process, and analyze data using Stata or other software; ensure the quality, consistency, accuracy, and completeness of data and datasets.
  • Support Elevate program staff with research and other support as requested to complete deliverables, improve efficiency, and inform business unit decision-making.
  • Lead development and documentation of technical methods and processes.
  • Lead and manage the design and implementation of technical projects, including multiple simultaneous projects of varying size and duration.
  • Lead project management tasks, including developing project priorities, workplans, and budgets, assembling and managing teams, and managing client relationships.
  • Assess the status of projects, identify actual or potential problems with data or research projects, and facilitate solutions in consultation with the project team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree, or relevant lived experience, required; Master’s degree preferred
  • At least three (3+) years of related work experience, including but not limited to building science, efficiency and renewable energy program implementation, climate or environmental justice, smart grid, water, and climate resiliency
  • Expertise in qualitative, quantitative, and energy industry research methods, using software such as Stata or a demonstrated ability to learn new statistical analysis software and scripting
  • Demonstrated experience in survey methods including writing custom survey questionnaires, running appropriate statistical analyses, and reporting relevant and actionable insights
  • Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative research, including interviews and focus groups with the ability to analyze data effectively to report key takeaways
  • Proven track record as successful project lead on multiple projects including project design, research, and project management
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to communicate technical and research findings to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Exceptional critical thinking and client management (internal and external) skills
  • Ability to work independently and on multiple teams
  • Experience with survey writing, implementation, and survey data analysis desired
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with a high degree of accuracy
  • Industry expertise in equity, decarbonization, energy efficiency, healthy homes, smart grid, water, workforce, and/or renewable energy desired

Compensation

The total compensation for this position includes health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.), defined contribution benefit (401k with contribution), professional development, generous paid time off policies, and a flexible schedule. This is an exempt individual contributor position with a salary range of $75,000 – $80,000, based on experience.
