Vice President, Technology
The Vice President of Technology (VPT) will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the technology strategy of our organization. This executive role is instrumental in shaping and executing a technology strategy that aligns with Elevate’s mission and strategic objectives. The VPT will serve as the chair of Elevate’s Office of the CTO (OCTO) and as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT). The VPT ensures technology delivers measurable value, fosters innovation, and supports operational excellence while championing a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture.
The Vice President, Technology, reports to the Chief Operations Officer. This position is located in Chicago, Illinois, and is currently hybrid.
Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate a compelling and measurable technology vision, objectives and impact metrics aligned with Elevate’s mission to reduce costs, protect people, and promote environmental stewardship, while ensuring buy-in from ELT and OCTO members.
- Serve as a strategic partner to the ELT, linking technology decisions to business goals and growth opportunities.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, assessing their potential to amplify Elevate’s mission and competitive edge.
- Mentor and develop OCTO members and build a high-performing technology leadership team.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement across technology teams.
- Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion within the technology function.
- Promote alignment with Elevate’s core values and mission in all team interactions and decisions.
- Oversee IT operations, cybersecurity, platform and program services, and data management to ensure efficiency, compliance, and alignment with Elevate’s goals.
- Drive continuous improvement and value generation from existing technology, enhancing the organization’s competitive advantage, and recommending adoption or decommissioning as appropriate.
- Ensure technology resources are allocated effectively to support both short- and long-term priorities.
- Act as a change agent, driving organization-wide adoption of technology initiatives that align with Elevate’s mission.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration to break down silos and encourage shared goals and accountability.
- Build relationships with internal leaders and external networks, including vendors, universities, start-ups, and non-profits.
- Translate complex technical concepts into accessible, plain language for non-technical stakeholders.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of technology projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and with high quality.
- Manage the technology budget, maximizing return on investment and aligning with Elevate’s financial goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; a master’s degree is preferred
- At least fifteen (15+) years in technology leadership roles, with a track record of driving business value through innovative technology
- Proven experience in the non-profit sector or mission-driven organizations
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and resources effectively
- Familiarity with State and Local government technology operations
- Experience working with Federal technology initiatives; familiarity with the FedRAMP approval process or working with FedRAMP-approved technologies, including compliance and implementation in secure environments
- Strong understanding of government compliance, procurement processes, and scaling technology solutions for government clients
- Exceptional leadership and team-building capabilities, with a focus on talent development and retention
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Deep understanding of systems engineering, agile delivery, design thinking, and information architecture
- Expertise in emerging technologies (e.g., AI, cloud computing, data analytics) and their business implications
- Visionary thinker with the ability to anticipate future technology trends and their impact
- Change agent who can challenge the status quo while bringing stakeholders along on the journey
- Collaborative leader who fosters a culture of transparency, trust, and accountability

Compensation
The total compensation for this position includes health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, etc.), defined contribution benefit (401k with contribution), professional development, generous paid time off policies, and a flexible schedule. This is an exempt people manager position with a salary range of $130,000 – $150,000, based on experience.
