Elevate Celebrates Rollout Of Michigan’s State HB 5028
Today, Michigan’s State House Bill 5028 officially goes into effect. Elevate is proud to celebrate this significant step forward in expanding access to clean energy and sustainability resources for homeowners across the state. Signed into law by Governor Gretchen Whitmer last July, this bill guarantees that over 1.4 million Michiganders living in homeowners associations (HOAs) can participate in the green economy and take advantage of sustainable solutions that benefit their homes, health, and the environment. HOAs now have one year to update their rules and policies to comply with this law.
Elevate has been helping local governments, contractors, utility companies, and community-based organizations prepare for this law going into effect. As such, Elevate encourages HOAs to utilize these resources from our partners at the City of Ann Arbor as they work to update their policies in compliance with HB 5028.
With the implementation of HB 5028, Michigan residents who live in HOAs will be able to access a wide range of resources, including:
- Rooftop solar panels
- Battery storage
- Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations
- Insulation
- Energy-efficient windows
- Heat pumps
- Rain barrels
These improvements will help reduce energy and water usage, while also saving residents money on utility bills, enhance comfort, and improve overall health. Elevate’s CEO, Anne Evens, shared the following statement.
“This legislation is a critical milestone in Michigan’s journey toward renewable energy and sustainability. It supports the state’s goals of creating equitable access to clean energy for all communities, particularly those that have been disinvested. With this law now in effect, more Michiganders can benefit from a cleaner, healthier environment, and a more resilient economy.
“Elevate remains committed to supporting Michiganders as they navigate the new possibilities created by this law. Through this new law now in full effect, we look forward to helping communities across Michigan advance equity, with a more sustainable future.”
