Air Sealing and Insulation (ComEd)

You want your home to be comfortable, no matter what room you’re in or what the weather is like outside. Air sealing and insulation are some of the best home performance features to keep your home a consistent temperature while saving you money on your heating and cooling bills!

Comprehensive air sealing combined with properly installed insulation work together to keep your home the temperature you want it to be, so you don’t need to spend extra money heating and cooling your home.

Air sealing: Reduce leaks and drafts

Walls, windows, and doors typically have lots of cracks and gaps that allow air to leak in and out of your home. Pipes, vents, ducts, lighting, and wiring also leave dozens more holes. Sealing these openings significantly helps reduce drafts as well as unwanted moisture, dust, pollen, pests, and noise in your home.

Insulation: Provide comfort all year

To keep your home a comfortable temperature, the heat lost in the winter must be replaced by your heating system and the heat gained in the summer must be removed by your cooling system. In the winter, 10% of a home’s heat is lost through windows and doors, and 25-35% of heat is lost through uninsulated walls and roofs. Properly insulating your home creates a barrier to prevent this heat loss, which keeps your home comfortable and saves you money on your energy bills.

Home Energy Assessments

A home energy assessment is the best way to find out where your home is losing energy and discover the most cost-effective ways to fix it.

A home energy assessment will cover these key areas:

Energy Usage

An energy assessment helps you estimate how much energy your home is using, and what equipment may be using the most energy.

Health and Safety

The assessment will uncover potential issues in your home that could be wasting energy and making your home unsafe, like poorly insulated walls and improper ventilation.

Savings

Finally, an assessment identifies home improvements that will save energy and make your home safer. The assessment will help determine which improvements are most cost-effective, so you can decide where your dollars will be best spent
